Native Watercraft Slayer Propel Fishing Kayak Review

Native Watercraft Slayer Propel Fishing Kayak Review

The Native Watercraft Slayer Propel Fishing Kayak is the best kayak for fishing in my opinion.  If you are a serious angler, this is the high-end kayak that won’t disappoint.  Of course, the Native Slayer is fast, stable, and comfortable. This sit on top fishing kayak is comparable to the Hobie Outback, but less expensive.   Plus, I really like that you have the option to paddle or pedal.

Features

This is a high-end sit on top fishing kayak with pedals, so it has lots features, just like you would expect:

  • Removable propel pedal drive system with forward and reverse
  • Adjustable “First Class” seating for added comfort
  • Impact resistant stern rudder with left-hand control system
  • Hard shell bow hatch with bungee
  • Right hand forward facing rod holder
  • Two flush mount rod holders aft
  • Several groove tracks for accessory mounting
  • Padded deck area for standing
  • Propel drive trunk cover with accessory tray and cup holder
  • 5″ dry storage hatch
  • Padded carry handles
  • Rear storage well
  • Super seal scupper plugs
  • Drain plug

Specifications for the Native Watercraft Slayer Propel Fishing Kayak

The Native Watercraft Slayer Propel Fishing Pedal Kayak comes in different sizes.  The 10 foot long model has a flat aft, while the 13 foot model is pointed at both ends.  The table provides the specifications for each one.

Pros

  • You have the option to paddle or pedal.  You can have your hands free for fishing if needed.
  • Many features are customizable (i.e. seat position)
  • “First Class Seating System” makes this kayak really comfortable.
  • It can go up to 5.2 miles per hour.
  • Rock solid stability. You can stand if needed.
  • Plenty of storage that is easy to access.
  • The Slayer Propel Kayak is available in several colors.

Cons

  • It is not cheap.  Keep in mind this kayak is an investment and will hold its value.  It is also durable and will give you countless hours of fun on the water.
  • The turning radius is not the best.  If this is a concern, you can purchase an upgraded rudder.
  • The drive while being pedaled can be loud.
  • You need to keep the prop clear of sea grass as it can easily get tangled.

Accessories

You really don’t need much in terms of accessories with this kayak, but Native Watercraft does make a nice fishing caddy that attaches groove track system.  It has a large compartment for your tackle box and some slots for your tools.  It’s also a nice compliment to the storage areas already built into the kayak. Summary – 5/5

In summary, you will be hard-pressed to find a better fishing kayak.  The only real downside is the cost, but you have to keep in mind that a good fishing kayak really is an investment.  I know you will be happy with your choice if you go with the Native Watercraft Slayer Propel fishing kayak.
